APIA, 28 FEBRUARY 2021: The 4th instalment of the Taula Twilight Golf Series teed off last Thursday 25th February 2021. The Marist B.I.G Series is an investment in the development of Golf. One of the most successful developments is the Taxi Junior Programme which was initiated in January 2020. The programme was taught by two Pro Golfers, Asiata Van Wright and Bob Malase from First Tee Samoa. The Junior program started with the boys who use to Caddie at the Faleata Golf Course.

Since the start of the Programme, three of the boys have been granted scholarships for education in St. Joseph’s College, Alafua. Fala Koroseta, who was part of the programme was named the Overall Champion for the Third Taula Twilight Golf Series which was held in October 2020. Marist B.I.G also wants to promote good etiquette and good relationships among golfers as part of the Taula Twilight Golf Series.

In partnership with Taula, the series has successfully raised enough to fund multiple scholarships for aspiring students. The Taxi Junior Program currently has twelve boys registered in the program.

The Taula Twilight Golf Series started with its initial tournament in September 2019, where it teed off at Faleata Golf Course as an initiative by the Marist B.I.G (Brothers In Golf) Golf School.

The idea of the tournament was to use the daylight saving time to play a round of Golf, with the intention that the etiquette of the game of Golf is held high at all times.

The Series was played every Thursday for five consecutive weeks where the overall Prize giving was held on the final week at Birdies Bar. Individual winners were selected from the men and women’s divisions each week during the tournament. The overall winner of each division will then be selected at the final week of competition based on the total of their top three scores.

The Golf school who competes during the five week competition also have an Overall Prize determined by the total scores of their top five players.

Together with Taula Breweries, many companies helped in the development of the Taula Twilight Golf Series. Namely: Samoa Stationery and Books (SSAB), Samoa Land Corporation, Birdies Bar, Loralei Giftshop, Misiluki Spa, Chickalicious Takeaway, Keaka Restaurant, Samoa FM 93.7/104.1, Connexions Café, Pacific Ezy and Vodafone Samoa.

“Marist B.I.G’s would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Taula Beverages and all the sponsors for their continuous support, as without our sponsors, we won’t be able to execute our Taxi Junior Programme and also pay for our junior scholarships now in place,” says Paulo Stowers, Captain of Marist B.I.G Golf School.

“We also take this opportunity to thank all our golfers who have been supporting this initiative since inception. Please come and play and all the best with the fourth series.”
