WHO corrects its record that Samoa has No Covid-19 death case

APIA, SAMOA – 28 FEBRUARY 2022: The World Health Organization has corrected an error reported in its’ latest update of confirmed Covid-19 cases and deaths posted 25 February, which reported that Samoa had one confirmed death from the pandemic.

Posted by the WHO Office in Manila, a new table was posted a day later stating that an error and confirmed Samoa had zero total deaths and 33 confirmed cases throughout the pandemic.

The latest table also corrected the cases for Tonga with 287 confirmed cases, zero death rate and no new cases.

Since the Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020, regular updates by the National Emergency Operations Centre had not recorded any death in Samoa from the pandemic.

The Minister of Health, Valasi Togamaga Tafito Selesele told Talamua today that he was not aware of any local Covid-19 death case.

The information and reports obtained by the WHO are based on information provided by the Ministry of Health.

As of the corrected WHO confirmed Covid-19 cases dated 25 February 2022, Samoa is among six other countries that have yet to record a death from Covid-19.

These countries include American Samoa, Cook Islands, Macao, Republic of Marshal Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu.
