51 year old man held for machete killing on Sunday

APIA SAMOA – 07 MARCH 2022: A 51 year old man is in Police custody and charged with murder of another man yesterday (Sunday) using a machete. Two other men are being treated in hospital with serious injuries from the same incident.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo said the incident happened at Tafatafa, Falealili where 6 people were on an outing at the beach.

According to the police report, the 6 had been drinking from Saturday and went on to Sunday morning.

They made a lot of noise as they left in the afternoon which resulted in their car being stoned by some villagers.

The car stopped and two of the occupants took off on foot, while the others remained and continued to call out swear words on the road.

A man armed with a machete then attacked the three and according to police, one of the men died at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

The other two are admitted at the hospital also with serious injuries.

The accused is now in police custody to await his appearance in Court.

Young man charged with the death of his brother
In a separate incident, a 19 year old man of Fasito’o-uta has been charged with negligent driving causing the death of his younger brother and will appear in Court next week.

The incident happened last Friday as the accused, the deceased and another person went to collect food and firewood from the family plantation in preparation for their grandfather’s funeral on the weekend.

However, the car suspected to be traveling at a high speed, swerved abruptly, rolled off the road and hit a tree.

The younger brother died instantly and the other passenger is at the hospital with serious injuries.
