Burial services allowed for 10 family members during lockdown

Covid roadside checks in Savaii where active cases jumped from one to 13 in five days.

APIA, SAMOA – 23 MARCH 2022: Burial services are being allowed under the current Covid-19 Alert Level 3 – Red lockdown, but to only 10 family members living in the same household and only on days the services are opened as announced by the Prime Minister yesterday.

The Cabinet decision in its special meeting yesterday 22 March 2022 also said only one (1) religious minister is allowed to conduct the service.

7 days quarantine & three scheduled international flights suspended
Cabinet has also suspended the scheduled flights for 24 April, 15 May and 5 June 2022 as well as the flights requested by the Australian government for the time being.

The scheduled flight to arrive 29 March 2022 will be the first arriving passengers to be quarantined for seven days and this situation will be reviewed in the future.

Cargo flights will continue during lockdown as well as the departing passengers for the rest of the approved flights for March.

The vaccination drive is continuing for children with the kind assistance of Samoa’s overseas partners and Rapid Antigen Tests continue on dedicated centres and roadside locations as well as first, second and boosters Covid vaccinations.

The lockdown has been extended until 5 April 2022 and two days a week have been designated to open up services from 0800 – 2000 PM on the following days.

Latest figures how 220 new community cases were recorded in the last 24hrs pushing the total number of community cases detected since 17th March 2022 to 467 with 454 cases confirmed in Upolu and 13 active cases in Savaii.
