Four more COVID-19 related deaths brings total to seven

Vaccination against the virus continues.

 

APIA, SAMOA – 10 APRIL 2022: After two days without an update, the Ministry of Health latest Covid-19 update (dated 2pm 8 April) and received Saturday night 9 April, confirmed 4 new Covid-19 related deaths bringing the death toll so far to seven.

The last update was dated 6 April reported three deaths but the Ministry of Health then noted that the death count was subject to change following full verification of all Covid-19 deaths. This followed unconfirmed reports that the death then was six.

The Ministry information of the 4 deaths:

(1) Male of 56 years old, unvaccinated known diabetic with amputation in 2019 and bedbound secondary to stroke;

(2) Male of 69 years old, completed vaccination & booster dose, known diabetic, end stage renal disease on dialysis who presented with history of infected burn wounds leading to sepsis;

(3) Male of 59 years old, 1st dose completed only, known high blood pressure with heart complications;

(4) Male of 74 years old with 1st dose completed only, no known medical conditions.

Confirmed Positive Cases
The Ministry of Health confirmed 342 new community cases and 3 border related cases in the last 24hrs.  This brings the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases to 3,602 recorded since 17th March 2022 not including the 63 border related cases.  Three critical cases are in ICU while seven are in managed isolation at the National Hospital.  To date, 31,435 RATs have been administered by the Ministry.
