APIA, SAMOA – 18 JUNE 2022: The residents of Tufuiopa village came together to support the beautification competition for villages and went away with the first prize of $1000 and a trophy last Saturday.

Three sub-villages of Vaimauga No 4, Tufuiopa, Tuloto and Togafu’afu’a had their own competition not only to celebrate the 60th Independence anniversary of Samoa, but as a start-up to a cleaning and beautification campaign for the villages.

Speaking at the event, Vaimauga No 4 Member of Parliament Faualo Lefau Harry Schuster congratulated the initiative by the villages and urged them to continue with the campaign as it benefits them.

The village residents worked together with businesses within the area in promoting a healthy environment.

The program started early Saturday morning with the Judges inspecting the key criteria of the competition which includes water drainage, cleanliness and safety of the environment, and ended with the prize giving in-front of the Rowlen Financial Services Company.

One of the Judges Pastor Goshe said the competition was not easy as all worked hard in beautifying their villages.

“Personally to me everyone is a winner, and it is not about money prizes but the spirit of people and villages working together to achieve something,” he said.

The initiative according to the village mayor Tonuu Fuamoli Amituanai is for the three villages combined in one fuiala to work together in developing and keeping their environment clean.

With the response from the three fuiala, Tonuu is confident that it is the beginning of better things to come and will enter their fuiala in the Samoa Tourism National Beautification Competition already in progress.

The Judges include Pastor Goshe, Viali Williams of Samoa Stationery And Books (SSAB) and Rowlen’s Financial Services Director Derek Wendt.
