Australian Wallaroo says future is bright for Samoan Women’s Rugby

APIA – 07 SEPTEMBER 2022: Australia’s Burraneer Rays competing in this weeks’ Vodafone 60th Independence International Sevens Tournament, today visited Leififi College and had a training session with the local school girls.

Rays Head Coach, Chris Nay said “this is the first time in Samoa for most of our team and they are so excited to be here. We couldn’t wait to get out and meet the local community.”

The team is travelling with Samoan Rugby legend and former Australian Wallaroo, Se’ei Sa’u and supported by Rugby Australia and the Australian Government’s PacificAus Sport Program to travel and compete in Samoa.

PacificAus Sports provides opportunities for Australian and Pacific players to play rugby and build lasting partnerships and friendships through sport.

Se’ei Sa’u said, “It’s great to see the growing support for women’s rugby in Samoa. Australia’s PacificAus Sport program is doing a wonderful job of investing in women’s rugby and unlocking the massive potential of girls across the Pacific.”

Se’ei Sa’u was impressed with the skills shown by the girls at Leififi College, saying “the future is bright for Samoan Women’s Rugby.”

Burraneer Rays is up against four local Women’s teams and competition kicks off Thursday evening at Apia Park.
