Samoa opens international borders without Covid-19 pandemic travel restrictions

APIA, SAMOA – 23 SEPTEMBER 2022: International travel is back to normal following Cabinet’s decision to lift all Covid-19 travel restrictions for international travellers into Samoa, effective as of 22 September 2022.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Tuala Tevaga Ponifasio announced Cabinet’s decision yesterday.

“This means our international borders will open completely without any restrictions to complicate the travel process for our families overseas as well as tourists,” said Tuala.

“There will also be no more delays encountered upon arrival at the airport for the incoming travellers.”

According to Tuala, Cabinet’s decision centred on observations of the country’s Independence celebrations and people that travelled over, as well as the high population of locals who have completed their vaccinations.

Changes to travel restrictions include:

• No more PCR RAT tests and other requirements needed to enter Samoa,

• No need to show Vaccination card,

• No more Covid-19 tests conducted upon arrival at Faleolo airport,

• Arrival declaration forms indicating vaccination & Covid status compulsory,

• Heavy penalties against travellers making false declarations,

• These changes are effective immediately.

Currently, 94 percent of the 18 upwards age group have completed two doses of Covid-19; 93 percent for ages 12-17, and 92 percent of children aged 5-11 years old.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Healthy is keeping a close eye on Covid-19 and other viruses that may enter the country in the future.

“As we keep sailing with faith, we put our faith in God,” Tuala concluded.
