UPDATE: Tsunami Watch now Cancelled for Samoa

APIA, SAMOA – 06 DECEMBER 2022: The tsunami watch which has been in effect for Samoa has now been cancelled. The advisory was issued by the Samoa Meteorology Division at 9.45 this morning.

“It is now safe as the threat is over,” said the latest advisory.

The Division issued a tsunami watch advisory at 0900 this morning following a 6.8 magnitude earthquake in a depth of 18.4 in the Tongan region at about 184 km South West of Apia.

Police were quickly sent out to warn residents on coastal areas and especially schools located close to the sea. Public servants who turn up at work early this morning were also told to return home.

But all is safe now as of the latest advice by the Samoa Meteorology Division.
