SSAB backs the only Fautasi from Savaii in 60th Independence Finale

APIA, SAMOA – 25 MAY 2023: When the five longboats take to sea tomorrow morning (Friday 26 May) for the Finale of the 60th Independence celebrations Finale, one crew will fly the SSAB Megastore flag.

SSAB today announced its newly established partnership with the Tolotolo o Tamauli Fautasi from the village of Salelologa in Savai’i earlier this week.

The Chief Executive Officer of SSAB, Afioga Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai is excited for this partnership and looks forward to working together with the only Fautasi crew from Savai’i and supporting their quest in the much-anticipated 60 years Independence Fautasi Regatta.

The partnership included a brand new uniform, cash, food, caps and umbrellas presented to the Management of the Tolotolo o Tamauli longboat.

The Management of the Tolotolo o Tamauli expressed their heartfelt appreciation to CEO Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai and General Counsel of SSAB, Aumua Ming Leung Wai for responding positively to their request for assistance in such a short time frame.

According to Pauli Apelu, the Treasurer and Secretary for the Tolotolo o Tamauli, it was the best news they have ever received since they started petitioning for Sponsorship.

“We are grateful for your kindness and our hearts are full,” stated Pauli Apelu.

CEO Tofilau credited God for the opportunity that He has allowed for this partnership to form and commended the Management and the whole crew for their courage to compete in this year’s Fautasi Regatta to celebrate Samoa’s 60 years of Independence.

“It’s never an easy obligation to put together a Fautasi Crew considering the costs for mobilization, however, I am moved by your courage to still go ahead and compete in this year’s Fautasi race,” says CEO Tofilau.

Tolotolo o Tamauli Fautasi is no stranger to the Fautasi races and going on its record, is a favourite to win this historical regatta.
