Savai’i farmers gather for the first ever Poultry Market Day
20 JULY 2023: The event was the first of its kind on Savaii Island. The Poultry Market Day last Tuesday brought together chicken farmers to share and realize the potential marketability of the local chickens either for breeding or for consumption.
It was also an opportunity for them to exchange views, test the agreed selling price for their products, meet and greet clients and share knowledge and experience with interested members of the public.
The market day is seen as a platform for poultry farmers to enhance visibility of poultry products and to deliver and meet consumer expectations.
This Poultry Market Day was funded through the FAO Technical Cooperation Project titled: “Support to address vulnerabilities to agriculture, nutrition and food security due to COVID-19.”
The event saw a positive turn out of not only poultry farmers at the Saleolologa Market and was officially opened by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao.
Poultry farming is one of the projects the Government is emphasizing under the $1m District Development Project to ensure not only food security but the economic well being of the villages.
