Cabinet accepts Leilua Dr. Mema Motusaga’s resignation

Apia, Samoa – 29 September 2023: Cabinet has accepted the resignation of the CEO of the Ministry of Women and Social Development, Leilua Dr. Mema Motusaga.

The CEO returned home in the weekend from a meeting she attended overseas with the Minister of the Ministry and tendered her resignation while she was overseas.

Cabinet was to discuss the Public Service Commissions’ report and recommendations into allegations levelled at the CEO. However, Cabinet accepted her resignation during its Wednesday meeting and gave the Public Service Commission to work out the entitlements payable to the outgoing officer.

Cabinet’s decision became effective 24 hours after the decision was made on Wednesday and yesterday was the CEO’s final day at work.

Leilua Dr. Mema Motusaga had been in the position for one and a half years of a three year contract. Her Ministry had been in charge of implementing the Governments $51million tala per year District Development Project as well as programs to address social issues such a domestic violence and projects for the empowerment of women and youth at the grassroots level.
