Apia, Samoa – 21 November 2023: The Acting Ombudsman Maualaivao Faualo Pepe Seiuli has confirmed that his office is currently investigating bribery allegations made against the police and Sagaga 2 Member of Parliament, Maulolo Tavita Amosa.

The complaint was filed by the Alii ma Faipule of Levi and Alamutu of Saleimoa after a video that went viral on social media showed Maulolo giving the police $2000 after police intervened in the on-going land dispute between Maulolo’s village of Afega and Levi and Alamutu the week before White Sunday.

In a press conference with Levi and Alamutu two weeks ago, they confirmed that they had filed a complaint with the Ombudsman’s office after police declined their complaint.

Guided by the evidence they had, they approached the Ombudsmans’ office and filed a complaint. The Acting Ombudsman, Maualaivao Faualo Pepe Seiuli confirmed with Talamua that the investigation is now in progress.
