Apia, Samoa – 01 March 2024 – Two charity organisations caring for the elderly in the country yesterday received $70,000 assistance from the Government through the Ministry of Social Development.

The charity organisations are the Home for the Aged at Mapuifagalele that received $50,000 and $20,000 for the Mapuipulotu in Savaii.

The funds were signed and handed over by the Minister of Women and Social Development, Mulipola Anarosa Molioo Ale and the Minister of Finance, Lautimua Uelese Vaai to the representatives of the two organisations.

The funds are part of Governments assistance to help with social development as part of its focus areas in Samoa’s Pathway for Development.

“This is also a golden opportunity for me on behalf of the Government to acknowledge the services you provide for the elderly of our country,” said Mulipola.

The organisations are required to submit acquittal reports in order for further funds to be available in the next financial year.

Sisters of the Poor running the Mapuifagalele Home for the Aged and representatives of the Mapuipulotu charity organisation in Savaii voiced their appreciation to the Government for the funds to support their work.
