Apia, SAMOA – 25 April 2024: A complaint has been lodged against a police officer who allegedly forged the signature of a guarantor in a loan application with the Samoa National Provident Fund (SNPF).

The Chief Executive Officer of SNPF confirmed an internal investigation into the matter has been completed and refrained from disclosing further information as the matter is now with the police.

The complainant confirmed with Talamua that he and his wife have had several meetings with the SNPF legal team over the issue and his name has been removed as a guarantor.

However, they said that the fact remains that his name was forged to guarantee a loan is an offence hence the complaint.

The matter was first brought to the complainant’s attention last month when his wife went to check on his account with SNPF and realized that he had guaranteed a $235,000 tala loan.

SNPF documents show the date and month he signed as a guarantor, however, the complainant said that he was on an overseas working assignment at the time he was supposed to have signed as a guarantor.

The Deputy Police Commissioner Papalii Monalisa Tiai Keti has yet to respond to queries about any investigation conducted by police into the complaint.
