Pensioners Lounges and Business Class suites in domestic ports upgrade

Apia, SAMOA – 05 July 2024 – As part of the 25th Anniversary Celebrations this week, the Samoa Ports Authority, officially opened its Domestic Ports Upgrade Project at the Salelologa Port in Savaii yesterday morning.

The upgrade project includes the refurbishment of the departure lounges with comfortable seats and provision of television sets for entertainments while waiting. It also features the improvement of the Pensioners’ Lounges and Business Class suites and the construction of new shops for the private businesses, installation of a new fence and upgrade of the car parking areas.

Yesterdays’ opening started with the prayer by Rev. Asosili Suesue of the Salelologa Methodist Church, followed by the Keynote Address delivered by the Olo Fiti Afoa Vaai, the Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure.

The Minister also made a charity presentation to the Mapuipulotu Organisation, that operates the home for the aged on Savaii Island. The program concluded with an inspection of the upgraded Salelologa Port facilities.

Since the official handover of the domestic ports in Mulifanua and Salelologa from the Samoa Shipping Corporation on the 1st October 2022, the Authority started with the upgrade project firstly at Mulifanua Port. The Mulifanua works was completed in July 2023 and the Salelologa works commenced right after up to the opening yesterday.
