Apia, Samoa – 16 July 2024 – A woman of Asian descent appeared in the Supreme Court yesterday charged with bringing Narcotics into the country.

Police applied for an adjournment so they could finalise the charges and the accused will appear again next Monday to enter a plea to the finalised charges.

The accused travelled from American Samoa and allegedly carried the banned substance when her bag was scanned at the Fagalii Airport.

In last months’ parliament session, several Members of Parliament raised serious concern about the rapid increase in narcotics and especially methamphetamine in Samoa and suggested vigilant screening at the country’s borders including links with neighbouring American Samoa.

The accused is released on bail to await her next appearance in Court.
