Voters registration low in the urban constituencies
Apia, Samoa – 22 May 2025 – With four more months to the close of the voters rolls for the upcoming general elections, nineteen (19) of the fifty-one (51) electrol constituencies have yet to reach 50 percent of the voters being registered.
The latest update from the Electrol Office dated 19 May shows that seven of the constituencies in the Apia urban area – four Vaimauga seats and three for Faleata, are below the 50 percent mark. The lowest is Faleata 3 with only 27% registered so far.
The remote constituency of Vaa-o-Fonoti records the highest with 90% of voters registered and Lepā with 83% voters registered so far.
Falealili 2 with 77%, Gaga’emauga 2 with 74%, Aleipata Itupa i Luga 73 percent, Falelatai & Samatau 71%, Falealupo 68% and Gagaifomuaga 3 at 67% voters registred so far.
In summary:
- 5 constituencies have between 30 and 40% registered voters so far.
- 11 constituencies between 40 and 50%.
- 13 constituencies at 50 and 60% voters registered.
- 12 constituencies have between 60 and 70% voters registered.
- 5 constituencies have 70 and 80% with voters registered.
- 1 constituency with 83% registered.
- 1 constituency with 90% voters registered so far.
The Electrol Commissioner told the media this week that the second and final round of voters’ registration in Savaii will soon begin to be followed by the final round for Upolu and they expect a draft voters roll in July 2025.
But the main office at Mulinu’u will be open for registrations after that until the rolls close in September.
The Electrol Commissioner also said that registration of voters residing in customary villages is high compared to voters residing on freehold properties.
The Commissioner reminded voters to register while there is time as failing to do so will carry a $2,000 tala fine.
