HRPP Launches $110M COLA Initiative in Election Platform
Apia, Samoa – 07 June 2025 – The Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) has announced the launch of its landmark Poverty Alleviation Project, a strategic and compassionate initiative designed to address economic challenges and empower Samoan communities.
“The program’s flagship component, the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) Initiative, commits $110 million tala annually to provide direct financial relief to every resident Samoan citizen, ensuring meaningful support for families facing rising living costs.
“The COLA Initiative delivers $500 tala per year to every resident Samoan citizen, a targeted measure to alleviate financial pressures and enhance household stability.
“Recognizing the nature of Samoan families, this initiative is structured to maximize relief impact. For instance, a household of six will receive $3,000 tala annually, while a family of ten will benefit from $5,000 tala, enabling them to address critical needs such as food, education, utilities, and transportation. This $110 million annual investment underscores HRPP’s commitment to rebuilding economic resilience and equitable prosperity across Samoa.”
Key Features of the COLA Initiative:
-
Universal Eligibility: Every resident Samoan citizen, regardless of age or socioeconomic status, will receive an annual payment of $500 tala, ensuring broad and inclusive support.
-
Significant Family Impact: With many Samoan households comprising large, extended families, the initiative delivers substantial financial relief, directly improving quality of life for thousands of families.
-
Rigorous Transparency and Accountability: Funds will be administered through a secure, audited system, with local councils collaborating with trained financial officers to ensure equitable distribution and full public disclosure of financial reports.
-
Economic Empowerment: By providing direct cash support, the initiative enables families to meet immediate needs while fostering long-term financial stability, aligning with national development goals.
“The HRPP is steadfast in its mission to support every Samoan citizen during these challenging economic times,” said Tuilaepa Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi, Leader of the HRPP.
“The COLA Initiative, with its $500 tala annual payment to every resident citizen, represents a historic $110 million commitment to our people. This program will deliver transformative relief to families empowering them to thrive and build a stronger future for Samoa.
“The COLA Initiative is the first pillar of the comprehensive Poverty Alleviation Project, which will include subsequent components focused on retirement, education, healthcare, and sustainable economic development. Through disciplined governance and transparent leadership, HRPP is dedicated to restoring a resilient and prosperous Samoa where every citizen has the opportunity to succeed.”
