Apia, SAMOA – 11 March 2026: The Government of Samoa has announced an intensified effort to combat the ongoing dengue fever outbreak, emphasizing the importance of public awareness and community participation.

A key component of the strategy involves targeted efforts to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, strengthen disease surveillance, and promote educational campaigns to inform the public about effective prevention methods.

Led by the Ministry of Health and the Integrated Vector Control Committee, the nationwide initiative brings together various government agencies and public organizations to work collaboratively toward reducing the spread of the disease.

These measures aim to curb the mosquito population and reduce the risk of transmission within communities.

Officials have called on residents to take personal responsibility for maintaining clean environments around their homes.

Regularly removing stagnant water and participating in community clean-up activities are essential steps in reducing mosquito habitats and protecting families from dengue.

Vector Control Committee consists of Government Agencies and Public Organizations collaborating to control the spread of Dengue Fever.

The Ministry of Health highlighted that community involvement is critical in the fight against the outbreak.

They stressed that when individuals and communities actively participate in environmental management and prevention efforts, the overall impact on controlling the disease is significantly enhanced.

Furthermore, the government has expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation of various stakeholders and partners across multiple sectors, noting that a coordinated response is vital for effective disease control.

As the dengue situation continues to be a public health concern, authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant. Continued preventive actions, such as using mosquito screens, wearing protective clothing, and eliminating standing water, are essential in safeguarding communities.
