Samoa has confirmed petroleum supplies up to June
Apia, SAMOA – 26 March 2026 – The Ministry of Finance that oversees the country’s petroleum fuel supplies, has confirmed that Samoa currently has full storage tanks to cover local supplies for two months.
The Ministry also confirmed that the latest oil tanker had been in Apia port 25 March, providing supplies with oil tankers confirmed and expected on 3 May and 4 June 2026. There is also enough supply of jet fuel available.
The Ministry has assured the public that there is no need to stockpile fuel as reports that some businesses have stockpiled for fear of a shortage under the current climate of the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Samoa’s fuel supplies are contracted to a single supplier, PPS and the monthly petroleum products retail prices decreased in the beginning of February and March before the war started.
Samoa’s fuel supplies are imported from Singapore who buy from the Middle East but MOF says there are other suppliers that can be sourced but expect the prices to be dearer with the current climate.
In the wake of the war and impact on oil supplies and rising costs globally, the government established a Cabinet Petroleum Task Force now working with the Energy Unit of the Ministry of Finance to monitor and prepare accordingly, to ensure the country’s fuel supplies if the current situation drags on in the coming months or to the rest of the year.
The bulk of Samoa’s monthly petroleum supplies serve the transport and electricity generation sector.
