Uganda’s Envoy presents Credentials

Her Excellency Dorothy Samali Hyuha, the Ambassador of Uganda to Samoa is welcomed by the Head of State, Afioga Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II.

Apia, SAMOA – 12 May 2026 – Her Excellency Dorothy Samali Hyuha presented her Letters of Credence to the Head of State of the Independent State of Samoa, Afioga Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II, at a Credentials Ceremony held this morning at the Official Residence of the Head of State at Vailele.

The ceremony accredited Her Excellency as the first High Commissioner Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uganda to Samoa with residence in Canberra, Australia.

Samoa and Uganda recently established diplomatic relations on 7 March 2025 through signed Joint Communiqué at the Ambassadorial level in New York.

Samoa and Uganda have continued to collaborate to advance mutual development priorities and challenges through membership in the United Nations, the Commonwealth and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and the Pacific States.

In her remarks, High Commissioner Hyuha stated that the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uganda and Samoa marked a significant step forward in enhancing cooperation and paving the way for collaboration and mutual benefit.

Her Excellency also conveyed appreciation to the Head of State for the excellent hospitality and courtesies extended to the delegation from Uganda during their visit for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) Samoa hosted in October 2024.

Afioga Tuimaleali’ifano Va‘aletoa Sualauvi II welcomed Her Excellency as the first accredited High Commissioner of Uganda to Samoa following the recent establishment of diplomatic relations.

The Head of State expressed his confidence in Her Excellency’s appointment, which will strengthen relations and opportunities for cooperation between our two countries.

Mrs. Dorothy Samali Hyuha holds a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Science with Education. She started her career as an Educator and later entered into politics and became a Member of Parliament of Uganda for three consecutive terms.

Mrs Hyuha held the positions of Deputy Secretary General of National Resistance Movement as the ruling party in Uganda in 2003. She also held the position of Senior Presidential Advisor from 2011 to 2015 and later became a Cabinet Minister from 2006 to 2010. Prior to her current appointment, Her Excellency served as Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania and Malaysia. She currently serves as the High Commissioner of Uganda to Australia with cross accreditation to the Pacific Island Countries including Samoa.
