Senior Sergeant Mapusaga Ana Ta’atiti attributes her success to her family

Apia, SAMOA – 15 May 2026 – After serving in the Samoa Police Prisons and Corrections Department since 2011, Mapusagaotumua Ana Ta’atiti from Neiafu, graduated from the Police Academy yesterday as Senior Sergeant.
A mother of two, she reflected on her journey as a milestone grounded on perseverance and faith.
But just two weeks before her graduation, her father who was the motivation for her to become a police officer 15 years ago, passed away.
“My father was the one who encouraged me to become a police officer. I relied on his prayers to guide me. Sadly, just two weeks before graduation, my father passed away. He was my motivation to pursue this career,” she told Talamua after yesterdays’ graduation ceremony at the Police Academy, Tafa’igata.
“After my father’s passing, my mother became my strongest supporter and prayer warrior,” she said.
“She always motivated me and encouraged me throughout my career. This is the first time I’ve been present for my promotion; previous promotions were received by my mother as I was overseas working.”
Over the years, Ana Ta’atiti has served in various sectors within the ministry, and she also had the opportunity to serve a two-year mission in Sudan.
“I thank God’s grace and my loved ones for helping me reach this achievement. I dedicate my promotion to my parents, children, and siblings.”
Police officers taking their oath of office
Ana Ta’atiti was among the 82 police officers who received promotions across various ranks in the Police graduation at the Police Academy, Tafa’igata yesterday.
During the event, 25 officers were promoted to the rank of Sergeant, 31 to Corporal, 6 to Inspector, and 15 to Senior Sergeant.
Prime Minister La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt delivered an inspiring message to the officers.
He emphasized that regardless of their ranks or awards, they must always uphold the value of honesty.
“We must always remember that honesty is a virtue that should come from within your heart, guided by the spirit of our Heavenly Father,” he said.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to officers who lost their lives in service, acknowledging their sacrifice and dedication to the nation.
The event concluded with officers taking an Oath of Office and receiving their certificates, marking a proud moment in their careers.
