Apia, SAMOA – 22 June 2026 – Government ministries, private sector, churches and tertiary institutions paraded on Beach Road this morning and ended with the opening ceremony of the Post-School Education week 2026 in front of the Government Building.
The Minister of Education and Culture, Aiono Dr. Alec Ekeroma, emphasized that Post-School Education Training (PSET) is not just an option but a crucial part of Samoa’s growth.
“The PSET sector plays a vital role in turning knowledge into practical skills, innovation, and job opportunities,” Aiono said.
“For Samoa, this sector is critical as thousands of young people transition from secondary school each year,” he added.

The Minister highlighted that ensuring relevant, accessible, and meaningful training pathways is key to helping young Samoans find employment and pursue lifelong learning.
He also pointed out that educational training can help keep boys engaged in school, especially since “50% of our boys drop out after Year 10, 11, and 12.”
Aiono reinforced that PSET is not a secondary option but a national priority.
It produces technicians, tradespeople, caregivers, IT specialists, tourism workers, and innovators all vital for driving Samoa’s economy and supporting local communities.
This year’s theme, “Ready Samoa- Empowering Skills, Innovations, and Industry Partnership,” acts as a call to action.
It encourages stronger collaboration between the government, education providers, industry communities, and churches to work together for a brighter future.

- The National Exhibition
- Samoa Skills Competition
- PSET Conference.
These gatherings aim to showcase skills development, learning opportunities, and strategic dialogue and also seek to improve the country’s educational and training systems.
Aiono reassured that the government remains committed to supporting and strengthening the PSET sector with relevant training programs.
He also expressed appreciation for teachers, providers, and staff who dedicate themselves to preparing Samoa’s workforce.
“Let this official opening be a turning point,” he said.
“A moment to reaffirm our commitment to building a Samoa that is future-ready, a Samoa where skills are valued, innovation is encouraged, partnerships are strong, and every young person has the opportunity to succeed,” he added.
