Apia, SAMOA – 9 July 2026 – Former Prime Minister, Fiame Naomi Mataafa has filed an affidavit to support the Human Rights Protection Party’s claim against the Government on the appointment of the District Development Protect (DDP) chairpersons.

HRPP counsel Rodney Harrison confirmed Fiame’s affidavit in court yesterday.

Also confirmed is the application by the Fa’atuatua I le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party as an intervenor in the case.

Only the FAST Party had lodged an application to be an intervenor when court called the matter last Friday, then gave until 3pm the same day for other parties and Independents to file affidavits.

The HRPP statement claims that the appointment of the district council or Fonofaavae chairperson was discriminatory.

The court made an order today for all files and documents to be filed and presented by tomorrow before the hearing of the case next Monday.
