One injured in Samoa Airways Twin Otter incident at Manu’a

Apia, SAMOA – 30 July 2026: A Samoa Airways airline staff was the only passenger who sustained a leg injury when the airlines DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft veered off the centre of the Runway 12 at Fitiuta Airport at around 10.37 am Wednesday 29 July.

A Port Administration of American Samoa confirmed no other injuries have been reported and all occupants on board — including two pilots and three passengers, including one Samoa Airways staff member have been accounted for.

The DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft, registration 5W-FAY was operating charter flight OL990. The aircraft was relaunched two weeks ago after major refurbishment in Canada.

The Airline says initial reports indicate the aircraft encountered strong crosswinds during final approach and landing.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are being assessed in line with standard aviation safety procedures.

The airline has activated its emergency response procedures and is working with aviation authorities, airport officials and emergency services to assist and support the investigation.
