Apia, SAMOA – 17 August 2026 – The Samoa Police has issued a clear warning to the public using social media and police concern over the growing spread of fake content created by AI, fake accounts, and false information posted online.

The police urge people to be careful when they see posts claiming to come from the Police, government agencies or other official groups.

The police is asking the public to stop, check, and think carefully before believing, sharing, or commenting on any posts that appear to be from official sources.

They warn that some individuals misuse police insignia and official logos to make their posts look genuine.

Police emphasize that using official symbols without permission is misleading and against the law.

The SPPCS emphasizes that they will not tolerate the deliberate use of social media to deceive, threaten, harass, defame, scam, or cause public disorder.

They are actively watching online activity and will investigate any cases where laws are broken.

Those responsible for creating or sharing harmful or fake content should know that any information shared under fake identities is not considered credible or official by the police or government.

The police remind the public to be cautious and to verify information before trusting or sharing online posts.
