New MPs Confirmed for Falealili No 1 and Vaimauga No 3

Apia, SAMOA – 22 September 2026 – The Head of State, Afioga Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aleto’a Sualauvi II has issued the warrants officially declaring Nonu Lemauga Laulu William Mauia and Seumafaleupolu Aperila Vaalotu duly elected as Members of Parliament for Vaimauga 3 and Falealili 1 respectively.

The warrants confirm the results of the 2026 by-elections for Vaimauga 3 and Falealili 1, held on Friday, 18 September 2026.

In Vaimauga 3, Nonu Lemauga Laulu William Maui’a was declared elected after polling 1,138 votes in the final count.

Three other candidates and votes received:

• Puaalatamai Tupuola Maleleulu Filemoni — 935 votes.
• Vaiofuaiupolu Chris Faaofo — 1,007 votes.
• Sooialo Feetau Lemigao Sooialo — 456 votes.

The constituency recorded 3,536 valid votes and 47 informal votes.

In Falealili No 1 by-election, Seumafaleupolu Aperila Vaalotu was declared elected after receiving 456 votes in the final count.

Six other candidates and votes received:

• Auseugalelei Uiti Lagavale — 245 votes
• Fuaolemoli Falaila Fa’ausu Allen — 132 votes
• Patea Taveuveu Ta’amaletoa Patea — 207 votes
• Sia Fa’aletonu Alec Leaupepe Latu — 128 votes
• Taveuveu Willie Tuatagaloa Fetu — 162 votes
• Tuiloma Tusa Silisili Laniselota Lameko — 268 votes

Falealili No.1 recorded 1,598 valid votes and 8 informal votes.

The two elected Member of Parliament both contested under the Faʻatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) Party.

In Parliament, FAST now holds 34 seats, HRPP 13, Independents 4 with one seat to make up the quota for women MPs yet to be decided.

The new MPs are expected to be sworn-in when parliament next sits.
