Samoa Airways to Resume Flights between Upolu and Savai’i

Apia, SAMOA – 23 September 2026 – Samoa Airways will restore scheduled flights between Fagali‘i and Maota in Savai‘i starting Thursday, 8 October reconnecting Upolu and Savai’i with 15-minutes air service.

Restoring the air services between the islands, also provide the option of emergency services at a cheaper and quicker turn around time.

The airline announced the return of the route following a decision by the Samoa Airways Board of Directors at its meeting on 15 September.

The scheduled flights will include a morning and afternoon flights operating on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between Fagali‘i and Maota ahead of White Sunday.

The airline says this will give passengers more travel options between the two islands and easier for families preparing for White Sunday, an important occasion that brings families and communities together.

“We are delighted to bring back this service and make travel between Upolu and Savai‘i faster, easier and more convenient for our people,” says Samoa Airways Chief Executive Officer, Fauo’o Taua Fatu Tielu.

The airline says fares will range from $200 one-way to $400 return.

Passengers can book flights through the Samoa Airways website, at the Samoa Airways Main Office in Apia, at the Fagali‘i Airport, or through Island Edge Travel in Savai‘i.

The airline has also reminded passengers that identification is required when making a booking and during check-in.

A valid photo ID must be presented before departure at both Fagali‘i and Maota airports.

Restoring the air services between Fagalii, Maota and Asau have recently been pushed by the Prime Minister, Laaulialemalietoa as they are a more feasible alternative especially for emergency services between the two islands.

Several previous cases required the charter of inter island vessels to transfer emergency cases from Savaii to the Motootua Hospital at a higher cost and longer time.

However, the issue then was that the Fagalii, Maota and Asau airports did not have runway lights to enable emergency flights to land and take off at night.

Lights have since been installed at Fagalii and Maota airports to enable this extra service at a cheaper and quicker turn around time.
