Cabinet holds circulation of $100 Tala Commemorative Note

Apia, SAMOA – 30 September 2026 – Cabinet has withheld the circulation of a $100 Tala commemorative note put out by the Central Bank of Samoa. Cabinet has also approved the privatization of procurement of medical supplies to address the endemic shortage of medicine through the national health system. These were among some of the Cabinet decisions released this week. The decisions and details below.

Following the circulation of news on the printing of a Samoan $100 Tālā commemorative Note by the Central Bank of Samoa, Cabinet at its meeting last week considered the matter and subsequently decided to hold the release and use of this Note for now.

The Attorney General has been tasked to look into this matter and report to Cabinet.

PROCUREMENT OF MEDICINES AND PHARMACEUTICALS FOR HEALTHCARE Cabinet has approved contracts with six companies for the supply of medicines and pharmaceutical products to support the Ministry of Health’s healthcare services nationwide. The contracts will be for a period of 24 months.

16 PATIENTS APPROVED FOR OVERSEAS MEDICAL TREATMENT
Cabinet has approved the referral of 16 new patients for medical treatment overseas.

Of the 16 patients, 11 will receive treatment in India, four in New Zealand, and one in Fiji. The Government has allocated approximately $1 million to cover the cost of treatment for these patients.

DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER TO LEAD SAMOA’S DELEGATION TO INTERNATIONAL MEETINGS ABROAD
Cabinet has approved the attendance of the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Mulipola Anarosa ‘Ale – Molio’o, accompanied by Government officials, to represent Samoa at three international meetings in October 2026.

The meetings are:
1. Oceania Renewable Power Summit – Auckland, New Zealand, 7 to 8 October 2026;

  1. 41st Meeting of the South Pacific Governors – Dili, Timor-Leste, 8 to 10 October 2026; and
  2. 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund [I.M.F.] and the World Bank Group – Bangkok, Thailand, 12 to 18 October 2026.

SAMOA’S DELEGATION TO THE 153RD ASSEMBLY OF THE INTER-PARLIAMENTARY UNION
Cabinet has approved the participation of a delegation from the Legislative Assembly of Samoa in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union [I.P.U.], to be held in Arusha, Tanzania, from 5 to 9 October 2026.

The delegation comprises MPs Tuiā Pu’a Fuatogi Letoa – Associate Minister for the Office of the Legislative Assembly of Samoa; Tunumafono Clare Tai Tin – Associate Minister for the Ministry of Revenue; Hon. Faleomavaega Titimaea Tafua  and Va’aelua Senetenari Samau.

The delegation will be accompanied by staff representatives from the Office of the Legislative Assembly of Samoa.
