SVSG Remembers Mark Burns: A Humble Man Whose Kindness Changed Lives
Apia, SAMOA – 21 October 2026 – The Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG) and SVSG Juniors join family, friends and the wider community in mourning the passing of Mark Burns, a humble and compassionate friend whose generosity made a lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable families and individuals across Samoa.
Mark’s association with SVSG began in January 2020, when he learned about the SVSG Juniors initiative to improve access to clean water for families in vulnerable situations. Moved by the vision of the project, he reached out to offer his support, sharing that he and a group of friends wanted to help communities experiencing hardship and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Mark’s response to the findings of household visits and consultations with families in Satapuala reflected his genuine concern for those in need. Within a week, he confirmed that he and his friends would fully fund nine water tanks, ensuring that every identified family received assistance. This contribution improved their access to clean water, easing a significant daily hardship. It was a practical demonstration of how compassion, when translated into action, can improve lives and strengthen communities.
Mark’s support for SVSG extended beyond the clean water initiative. In 2020, he contributed to SVSG Juniors’ Zumba fundraising activities, helping sustain community outreach programmes and in 2021, he again stepped forward through the SVSG Juniors “Wheelcare Project”, funding two wheelchairs for individuals whose mobility and independence were significantly improved through this assistance.
Mark’s association with SVSG began in January 2020, when he learned about the SVSG Juniors initiative to improve access to clean water for families in vulnerable situations.
Through these contributions, Mark helped SVSG continue its mission of supporting vulnerable individuals and families, providing practical assistance that restored dignity and improved quality of life.
What made Mark truly exceptional was his humility. He never sought fame, recognition or praise for his generosity. He preferred to remain anonymous, keeping the focus on the people receiving assistance rather than on himself. He gave quietly, expecting nothing in return, guided by a sincere desire to make life better for others.
While Mark never wanted public recognition, SVSG believes his story deserves to be shared in honour of the lives he touched and the example he leaves behind. His life reminds us that some of the greatest acts of humanity happen quietly, without expectation of reward or acknowledgement.
Although Mark has passed on, the impact of his life continues through the families and individuals who have benefited from his generosity. The households with improved access to clean water, the individuals supported through wheelchair assistance, the children at the Campus of Hope cared for by his donated food and supplies, and the communities reached through SVSG’s outreach programmes stand as enduring reminders of the difference he made.
His legacy lives on in the burdens he helped ease, the independence he helped restore and the opportunities he helped create for families facing hardship. Though he may no longer be with us, the good he did continue to make a difference in the lives of others.
On behalf of SVSG and SVSG Juniors, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mark for his friendship, his trust in our work and his commitment to helping vulnerable communities. We are honoured to have known him and to have been entrusted with bringing his generosity to those who needed it most.
To Mark’s family, friends and loved ones, we extend our deepest condolences and keep you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May you find comfort in knowing that his life brought hope and meaningful change to so many people.
Rest peacefully, Mark. Though you have passed on, the impact of your life lives on in the betterment of the many families and individuals who benefited from your kindness and will never be forgotten.
