Minister calls on Samoa Observer to stop publishing incorrect information

Apia, SAMOA – 24 June 2026: The Minister of Revenue (MOR) Pauga Talalelei Pauga has urged the local newspaper Samoa Observer to stop publishing incorrect information.
Responding to issues raised by the Members of Parliament during the 2026/2027 Budget Estimates, Pauga said MOR is responsible for issuing business licenses and they expect businesses to comply with the Inland Revenue Act.
“We issue licenses and there are businesses who do not comply with the Inland Revenue Act,” he said.
He confirmed that they recently canceled a business license of a company they confirmed is involved in illegal drugs dealings.
“With regards to Samoa Observer, I have documented all incorrect published and biased information,” he said.
The Speaker Auapaau Aloitafua Mulipola intervened and reminded the Minister of Parliament Standing Order of naming a person who cannot defend themselves in Parliament.
Pauga then continued on responding to issues raised by Members during the debate of the 2026/2027 Budget Estimates that affect the Ministry of Revenue.
