Apia, SAMOA- 23 October 2026 – The Government through the Ministry of Family and Social Affairs (MFSA) continues to support the Non-Government Organisations through the Samoa Umbrella for Non-Governmental Organisations (SUNGO).
A funding agreement signed today by the Minister of MFSA Moefaauouo Julius Ah Kui Tafuna’i and SUNGO’s President Peseta Lua Nafoi is to strengthen the work of NGOs to support community development across Samoa.
The agreement reaffirms the Government’s partnership with civil society organisations to support families, encourage community participation and ensure grassroots voices contribute to national development priorities.
Minister Highlights NGOs’ Role
Moefaauouo Julius Ah Kui Tafuna’i emphasised the important contribution NGOs make to Samoa’s development, particularly through their work with families, villages and vulnerable communities.
“Our non-governmental organisations play a critical role in the development of our country,” he said.
“They work closely with our families, villages and vulnerable populations, often reaching people and communities where additional support is most needed. The Government values this partnership, and we recognise that meaningful development requires all of us working together,” he added.
The agreement forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen relationships with civil society organisations, improve coordination and ensure community-based initiatives contribute to the wellbeing of Samoa’s people.
More NGO Funding Agreements Expected
MFSA has confirmed that further funding agreements with NGO partners are expected to be signed over the coming month.
The planned agreements reflect the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to strengthening collaboration, accountability and service delivery across the social development sector.
