{"id":14625,"date":"2022-11-07T11:24:12","date_gmt":"2022-11-06T22:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/talamua.com\/?p=14625"},"modified":"2023-05-23T16:36:23","modified_gmt":"2023-05-23T03:36:23","slug":"satuiatua-beach-fales-destroyed-by-major-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/talamua.com\/?p=14625","title":{"rendered":"Satuiatua Beach Fales destroyed by major fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #222222;\">By Talaia Mika<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><b><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #222222;\">APIA, SAMOA \u2013 06 NOVEMBER 2022<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #222222;\">: The iconic Satuiatua Beach Fales, at Sailua, Savaii have been destroyed in a major fire while the owners and most of the village were at church Sunday morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #222222;\">Videos and photos of the blaze circulated on social media platforms this morning showed the main fale which contains the restaurant, bar lounge, kitchen, reception and it is the operation centre gutted in flames. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #222222;\">According to Satuiatua village residents who helped put the fire out, the owner of the business, Leilua Tutogi Mailei explained with tears that the cause of fire started from the kitchen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #222222;\">\u201cThey forgot to turn off the stove when they left for church so it fired up and blew up the gas tank which literally blew up the whole house,\u201d a resident explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 368px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-14625-1\" width=\"368\" height=\"656\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/talamua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Salailua-Beach-Fales-fire2.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/talamua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Salailua-Beach-Fales-fire2.mp4\">https:\/\/talamua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Salailua-Beach-Fales-fire2.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #222222;\">The Tree House next to the fale that caught fire was also destroyed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #222222;\">The Fire and emergency services authority trucks arrived later but the building had completely been burnt down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #222222;\">Saved however were the air conditioned rooms and guest fales around the burned building.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #222222;\">The Beach Fales owner and long-time businesswoman, Leilua Tutogi Mailei is one of the many tourism business owners who were looking forward to the reopening of international borders to revive the tourism business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; color: #222222;\">In previous media interviews, she said the whole village benefitted from the business with employment opportunities and guests using local services and buying local produce and handicrafts.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Talaia Mika APIA, SAMOA \u2013 06 NOVEMBER 2022: The iconic Satuiatua Beach Fales, at Sailua, Savaii have been destroyed in a major fire while the owners and most of the village were at church Sunday morning.
