{"id":5228,"date":"2021-03-31T10:31:39","date_gmt":"2021-03-30T20:31:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/talamua.com\/?p=5228"},"modified":"2021-03-31T10:31:39","modified_gmt":"2021-03-30T20:31:39","slug":"tv-interview-trigger-police-investigation-of-allegations-against-former-deputy-speaker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/talamua.com\/?p=5228","title":{"rendered":"TV Interview Trigger Police Investigation of Allegations against Former Deputy Speaker"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_5229\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5229\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5229\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/talamua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Lauao-Sinasina.jpg?resize=740%2C416&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"416\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5229\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><strong>Lauao Sinasina<\/strong>, the EFKS TV Programme where a retired police officer revealed allegations of high level corruption in the police service.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>By Lagi Keresoma<\/p>\n<p><strong>APIA, SAMOA &#8211; 31 MARCH 2021<\/strong>: Police have launched an investigation into allegations made by a former police officer, Paepaetele Junior against the former Deputy Speaker Nafo\u2019itoa Tala\u2019imanu Keti.<\/p>\n<p>The allegations were made in an interview on the EFKS TV programme, <em>Lauao Sinasina<\/em> on Monday night and rebroadcast yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The police paid a visit to the EFKS TV station yesterday seeking assistance to access the interview to help their investigation following a complaint against the allegations made by the former police officer Paepaetele Junior in the interview.<\/p>\n<p>A source said Paepaetele has been given a chance to bring in evidence to support his allegation, and if there is enough evidence, an investigation can be opened against the former Deputy Speaker.<\/p>\n<p>Paepaetele could be facing a defamation charge should he fail to prove these allegations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attempted rape allegation<\/strong><br \/>\nNafo\u2019i and Paepaetele were both police officers at the time of the alleged incident.<\/p>\n<p>Nafo\u2019i went through the ranks to become an Assistant Commissioner whereas Paepaetele served as an escort for the then Head of State. Nafoi pursued a political career and was the Deputy Speaker in the last parliament and Paepaetele retired in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf my mind serves me well, the incident happened around 2006 or 2007, and every high ranking police officer at the time knew of the incident,\u201d Paepaetele said on the TV interview.<\/p>\n<p>The EFKS TV Programme, <em>Lauao Sinasina<\/em> features interviews with senior citizens about their life stories and service to the public and people of Samoa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat saddens me is that nothing not even a tribunal was conducted on this incident,\u201c said Paepaetele.<\/p>\n<p>He said for years, he was troubled by the fact that he and all the other officers knew of the allegations and yet nothing was done about it.<\/p>\n<p>He relayed that what triggered his coming forward was watching Nafo\u2019i conduct himself in Parliament (conducting parliament in the Speakers absence) as if he had not done anything wrong.<br \/>\n\u201cAnd God finally answered my prayers to talk about it,\u201d he said on TV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice are quick to charge the public even on minor offences and yet could not bring themselves to charge a police officer,\u201d said Paepatele.<\/p>\n<p>Paepatele said he recently met with the police woman who is the alleged victim and she is still serving at one of the police outposts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI informed her of what I was about to do, and I even asked her to come forward,\u201d said Paepaetele.<\/p>\n<p>During the TV programme, Paepaetele boldly said he was ready to respond to the police should they decide to investigate.<\/p>\n<p>The question in the minds of many is why the former police officer chose to come forward two weeks prior to the general election where Nafo\u2019i is an election candidate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Lagi Keresoma APIA, SAMOA &#8211; 31 MARCH 2021: Police have launched an investigation into allegations made by a former police officer, Paepaetele Junior against the former Deputy Speaker Nafo\u2019itoa Tala\u2019imanu Keti.
