{"id":5390,"date":"2021-04-07T23:22:48","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T10:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/talamua.com\/?p=5390"},"modified":"2021-04-07T23:22:48","modified_gmt":"2021-04-07T10:22:48","slug":"former-police-officer-in-custody-faces-defamation-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/talamua.com\/?p=5390","title":{"rendered":"Former Police Officer in Custody &#038; Faces Defamation Charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5391\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/talamua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Police-car-image.jpg?resize=740%2C265&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Police car image\" width=\"740\" height=\"265\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By Lagi Keresoma<\/p>\n<p><strong>APIA, SAMOA &#8211; 07 APRIL 2021:<\/strong>\u00a0 A former police officer, Paepaetele Ernest Betham has been charged with defamation following the claims he made against the former Deputy Speaker, and former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nafo\u2019itoa Tala\u2019imanu Keti.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed that Nafo\u2019i had committed an offence against a female police officer sometime in 2006 or 2007.<\/p>\n<p>He also claimed\u00a0that the top police officers at the time of the alleged offence knew about it but was not investigated.<\/p>\n<p>The former officer made the claims during an interview two weeks ago on the EFKS TV Talk programme, <em>Lauao Sinasina<\/em>, where guests talk about their life stories, achievements and public service.<\/p>\n<p>Paepaetele said on the programme that he struggled with the issue for a long time and he prayed for an answer and only then that he decided to talk and \u201creveal the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police told <em>Talamua<\/em> that the former officer was given a chance to provide proof of his claim.
