Apia, Samoa \u2013 24 November 2025<\/strong> – Wilex Samoa has been selected FAO\u2019s new Cocoa Value Chain Project<\/strong> for Samoa. The Project is supported by the Government of Samoa, and the People\u2019s Republic of China under the FAO-China South-South Cooperation Programme.<\/p>\n

Samoa has been selected as a regional demonstration country<\/a><\/strong> under FAO\u2019s One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) initiative, confirming cocoa as one of the Pacific\u2019s highest-value agricultural products.<\/p>\n

Under this program, Wilex Samoa\u2019s Koko Loa\u00ae Chocolate Factory<\/strong> has been recognised as the official cocoa processor for Samoa<\/strong><\/a>, partnering with FAO and Government to strengthen national cocoa production, processing, and export growth.<\/p>\n

Wilex Samoa\u2014established in 1995<\/strong>\u2014was the first cocoa and chocolate manufacturer in Samoa and the Pacific<\/strong>, and has led the revival of premium Samoan cocoa for nearly three decades. The company\u2019s founder and chocolatier trained under European master chocolate chemists<\/strong>, setting international standards for the Koko Loa\u00ae product range.<\/p>\n

Koko Loa\u00ae is now a nationally renowned Samoan chocolate brand<\/strong> and is widely recognised as a Pacific Island export icon. Wilex Samoa is also a four-time winner of Samoa\u2019s Exporter of the Year Award<\/strong>, reflecting its long-standing contribution to Samoan agriculture, rural livelihoods, and value-added manufacturing.<\/p>\n

Under the FAO OCOP initiative, Wilex Samoa will work with farmers, communities, and development partners to:<\/p>\n

  • Expand national cocoa production<\/li>\n
  • Improve farmer training, scale cocoa processing for export and post-harvest quality<\/li>\n
  • Develop new high-value cocoa and chocolate products<\/li>\n
  • Promote sustainable income-generating opportunities for women, youth & communities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
