APIA, SAMOA – 06 APRIL 2020: The Samoa Vodafone Chief Executive Officer, Satish Sharma has promised their customers that the company is working harder to bring in the latest technology and global innovations to its local customers.

Sharma was speaking at the launch of the Samoa Vodafone brand transition in the weekend at the Maluafou headquarters that was streamed live due to the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 State of Emergency orders.

He said the Samoa Vodafone is owned by the people of Samoa through the Unit Trust of Samoa (UTOS) that owns 25% of the company and other shareholders.

Sharma clarified that “the launch is not a merge but a brand transition with full ownership to the people of Samoa.”

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Malielegaoi said having Vodafone in Samoa is a sure sign of the company’s confidence in the Samoan economy especially this time where connectivity has never been so important in this time of crisis.

“Its arrival was fore born with our Government’s strategy and commitment to grow ICT in Samoa and today highlights the fruits of these initiatives,” he said.

He takes pride in the Government initiative to go digital last year and Vodafone with over 600 million customers globally, highlighting that the Samoan economy is more interlinked than ever to the digital globe.

Despite the State Of Emergency and uncertainty of what lies ahead with COVID-19, Samoa Vodafone company joins other mobile operations in 24 countries, partners with mobile networks in 42 more and with over 625 million mobile customers, plus 27 million fixed broadband customers and 22 million TV customers.

With 93 posts installed around the country, service and coverage is expected to be of high standard. This follows a recent period where service and internet speed was the subject of social media complaints by local customers.
