BREAKING NEWS: Head of State Calls for New Elections on 21 May

The Head of State announcing live the call for fresh elections on 21 May 2021.

APIA, SAMOA – 04 MAY 2021: Samoa’s Head of State, Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aletoa 11 has called fresh elections for all electoral constituencies. In a public announcement after 7.00 this evening, he declared the appointments of elected MPs void and said the Office of the Electoral Commissioner will be informed to call for new elections 21 May 2021.

He said after the election results of 9 April 2021 had not been definitive and with a 26-26 tie and 50% of those elected are facing election petitions in court, he felt calling fresh elections is the best way for the country to go forward.
