APIA, SAMOA – 15 JUNE 2021: Seven people are in police custody following yesterday’s raid at Fasitoo-uta and Faleatiu villages where illegal drugs, unregistered guns, ammunition and money were confiscated.

Commissioner of Police, Fuiavailili Egon Keil said the drug haul of dried marijuana leaves is valued at around $160,000 talā and police also confiscated $1,000 talā cash, laptops, mobile phones scissors and knives and utensils used to take drugs.

He said police received complaints from members of the public about people selling marijuana and other illegal drugs and some letting off gunshots that have scared people in the villages.

Three barrels of dried marijuana leaves ready for the market were confiscated. The drugs were confiscated from three separate families in the two villages raided.

The Commissioner said some of the children tried to destroy the marijuana plants and seemed to have known that the police were coming.

He thanked the members of the public for informing the police as the police are always working to keep Samoa safe.
