Police Post Photo of Van Suspected in Vaitele Hit & Run Incident

APIA, SAMOA – 22 JUNE 2021: The police have posted online the video clip of a white van suspected in the hit and run incident on Ma’ali Street, at Vaitele which killed a university student on the early hours of 21 April 2021.

Deputy Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo said the van was caught on video footage around the time of the incident on the same street where the young man’s body was found.

He said the video footage was claimed from a Chinese operated shop not far from where the incident took place.

“We are not saying the van was involved but we suspect it because of the time it was caught on camera and the time of the incident,” he said.

Police still have no solid information despite having interviewed several people and following several leads.

Since the incident, there have been a lot of hearsay and misinformation posted on social media accusing certain people. Auapa’au said that when the police approached the people whose pages the comments were posted, they denied knowledge of anything.

The Police investigation is continuing and Auapa’au is asking the public who may have any information to contact the police to help resolve the case.
