APIA, SAMOA – 30 JUNE 2021: The former Minister of Telecommunications, Afamasaga Rico Tupa’i has withdrawn his petition against Toeolesulusulu Cedric Schuster who unseated him in the April general election.

Before the matter was called today, the Alii ma Faipule of the Aana Alofi No 4 constituency urged the parties to consider the unity and harmony of the district.

In Court the parties asked for a chance to discuss a possible settlement and later, the counsel for the Petitioner informed the Court of their stance.

The application to withdraw was accepted and so was the counter petition. The parties have 7 days to advertise the reasons for the withdrawal before returning to Court for confirmation.

Afamasaga said his decision to withdraw was based on his feelings for his village and district and to give Toeolesulusulu a chance to represent their district in Parliament.

Toeolesulusulu in turn acknowledged Afamasaga’s decision and the support rendered him by his party and family.

Other petitions withdrawn this week include that against the Aiga le Tai MP, Auapaau Mulipola Aloitafua and Mulipola Anarosa Molioo.
