Seasonal Workers scammers facing more charges

APIA, SAMOA – 13 DECEMBER 2021: More charges have been filed against the two men under police custody for allegedly deceiving people by pretending to be agents of the Seasonal Workers scheme.

The defendants have already pleaded guilty to 13 counts of obtaining money by deception by pretending to be seasonal workers agents and are currently awaiting sentence.

The pair, Joseph Lafaele and Viliamu Tuigamala appeared in Court today on separate charges of obtaining money by deception and entered not guilty pleas.

This incident happened last year and the police summary of facts stated that both defendants allegedly obtained $650 by deceiving a woman at Sogi.

Presiding Judge, Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma referred the matter to the District Court tomorrow.

Both have previous convictions.
