APIA, SAMOA – 31 JANURAY 2022: A four year old child is one of the latest three who have been tested positive to Covid-19 and brings the total number of positive cases for Samoa to 30. Samoa is now at Alert Level 2.

The Ministry of Health advised yesterday that following the implementation of its regular test schedule for all persons in quarantine three new positive cases have been identified from among the passengers including a 4 year old child.

The total number of positive cases is 30 and all remain asymptomatic.

All frontline workers are in quarantine and the 5 nurses at the Isolation Unit in Moto’otua Hospital, continue to return negative cases after their third round of testing.

Currently there is no evidence of a community transmission.

Samoa is under Alert Level 2 and an urgent and essential meeting of Parliament is scheduled for this morning, 31 January 2022 and due to COVID 19 State of Emergency Orders, only parliamentarians and authorized personnel will be allowed entry into Parliament grounds.

Schools that were supposed to start the first term today have been delayed indefinitely and the Ministry of Education has called the teachers to report to school today “to prepare lessons and school learning packages for students to be distributed in accordance with the SOE orders.

The Ministry has made available programmes on TV, Online and Radio for Weeks 1 and 2 for student learning ECE, Primary and Secondary levels.

TV Lessons are on TV1, NUSTV and the Government TV Channel and Radio lessons will be on Radio 2AP.
