APIA, SAMOA – 01 FEBRUARY 2022: Two young men have been confirmed dead after a swimming accident at Samalaeulu, Savaii on Sunday.

The Acting Police Commissioner, Auapaau Logo Filipo said police and members of the Fire & Emergency Services Authority in Savaii responded to the call for assistance.

According to reports he received, the two boys were swimming when one of them was swept in a strong current and the other tried to help and both got swept away.

“The bodies of the boys have yet to be recovered,” said Auapa’au.

He gave a strong warning from police for the public to be cautious and not to take any chances especially with the current weather conditions.

Missing Brothers
In a separate incident in Upolu, police are looking for two young brothers who have been missing from their family at Aleisa since Saturday.

Police are calling on the public for help in locating 13 year old Junior Kalifa and 12 year old Suiai Kalifa.

Auapaau said with the country trying to cope with the COVID-19 situation, it is very important for people not to take unnecessary risks and for parents to mind the whereabouts of their young children.
