Police Calls Off Search for Body of Drowned Youth

APIA, SAMOA – 02 FEBRUARY 2022: Police have called off the search for the body of a young man who drowned while swimming with his cousin in the sea at Samalae’ulu, Savai’i last Sunday.

The Deputy Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logo Filipo said due to strong currents and bad weather, the search has been called off for now.

Police however have recovered the body of one of the boys.

The incident happened Sunday at Samalae’ulu Savaii when the cousins decided to go for a swim.

One of the boys was in trouble and the other tried to help him but both struggled with the current and were swept away and drowned.

Missing Brothers Found
Meanwhile it is good news for the families of the two brothers Suiai and Junior Kalifa who went missing from their home at Aleisa since Saturday 22 January. Police confirm they have been located and returned home safely.

The Ministry of Police acknowledged the assistance of a family at Leusoali’i on the East of Apia who reported the boy’s whereabouts and led to a happy reunion with their family at Aleisa.
