Petroleum retail prices increased by 20 sene a litre for April.

APIA, SAMOA – 01 APRIL 2022: Motorists will have to pay 20 sene extra a litre for petrol in new petroleum retail prices now in effect starting today.

The Minister of Finance Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molioo announced the new retail prices as follows.

  • Petrol increases by 22.6 sene from $3.11 to $3.34 per litre;
  • Diesel is up by 22.8 sene from $3.07 to $3.30 per litre;
  • Kerosene increases by 19.9sene from $2.67 to $2.87 sene a litre.

Mulipola said April’s retail prices are based on February MOPS International Product Prices which increased by another U$10-12 a barrel. The higher freight costs and a weaker Tala vs the US$ exchange rate also added to the overall increase in landed costs.

She also said that crude and product prices are continuing to increase and fuelled by the concerns that the war in Ukraine will impact the continuity of the crude oil supplies.

Mulipola also said the economic sanctions imposed by the Western nations on Russia who account for 7% or world crude oil supply, will continue to impact overall world prices.
