APIA, SAMOA – 12 APRIL 2022: Two females, one aged 90 and the other aged 63 are the latest confirmed Covid-19 related deaths. It brings the number of Covid-19 related deaths to 9.

The deaths are included in the Ministry of Health’s latest updated report dated 10 April 2022 and received after 3.00 this afternoon.

“Sadly, the Ministry of Health reported two (2) new COVID-19 related deaths in the past 48 hours taking the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to nine (9). The deceased were female, one aged 90 and one at 63.  Out of respect for the families and relatives, we will not be making any further comments,” said the Report.

The Situational Health Reports on the pandemic have been slow in coming and the last Report dated 8 April and sent out 10 April recorded two deaths and brought the death toll then to 7.

Today’s Report (dated 10 April) also confirmed 427 new community cases, 12 cases in managed isolation and 3 critical cases in ICU at the Moto’otua Hospital in the past 48 hours, from 2:00pm 08th April to 2:00pm 10th April, 2022.

The Ministry again reminds members of the public to remain vigilant and take heed of public health advice to get vaccinated, stay home and isolate if you are feeling unwell, mask up and ensure good personal hygiene.

“Vaccination remains the best defense against COVID-19 pandemic,” is the medical advice.
