Manono Island records first Covid-19 cases

APIA, SAMOA – 20 APRIL 2020: The Ministry of Health has confirmed the first Covid-19 cases on Manono Island which along with Apolima Island had been without positive community cases since the first case was detected on 17 March 2022.

The latest Situational Report between 18 and 19 April said 5 cases had been detected in Manono Tai. The Director of Health, Leausa Dr. Take Naseri told the media last week that he understood the precautionary measures involved having one person from each of the households on the island to come to the main island to obtain supplies.

The latest report confirmed 485 new community cases in the reporting period. It brings the number of community cases recorded since 17th March 2022 to 6,731.

Of the 6,731 community cases:

  • 6,201 cases are reported in Upolu,
  • 525 cases in Savaii and
  • 5 cases detected in Manono Tai.

There are 16 cases in managed isolation and 3 critical cases in ICU at the Moto’otua Hospital within the period commencing from 2:00pm 18th April to 2:00pm 19th April, 2022.

There are no deaths reported during this period and death toll remains at 13.
