APIA, SAMOA – 29 APRIL 2022: The Acting Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo said the police did respond to the domestic call for assistance on Saturday night from Alafua.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the police did respond to the call,” said Auapaau.

“However, we are awaiting the result of the Professional Standards Unit (PSU) investigation on what happened,” he said.

Auapaau said they do not tolerate such behaviour from any police officer, and if the PSU result comes out different, they will deal with it accordingly.

The call was made when the assaulted woman was beaten by her mother-in-law and two sisters–in-law.

The incident went viral after the photo of the assaulted woman was posted on social media which also highlighted the reported police response “to wait until the next day” which was last Sunday.

Police has since launched an investigation into the incident.

In the meantime, the three women accused of assaulting the mother of three have been charged with criminal offences.

The assaulted mother and her children are now under the care of the Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG).
